Fatima College Extension Programme was introduced during the academic year 2006-2007. In year 2010 – 2011 it has become a mandatory for all the III U.G Students, with a view to make the students experience and express concern for the society, especially the poor and the needy. The activities are streamlined and focused on women, children and youth covering health, literacy, women empowerment, environmental awareness and other concerns of our times.

OBJECTIVES

To sensitize the students to the living conditions of the rural people who are around them.

UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN 2.0
|
Unnat Bharat Abiyan is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Human Resource Development with the intention to enrich Rural India. Fatima College is one of the Participating Institution under UBA- 2.0 selected in a challenge mode based on our past contribution to societal development.

|
As per requirement, our institution identified 5 villages namely Thirumal Natham, Nedungulam, Vadugapatti, Ambalathadi and Kondayampatti in consultation with the District Collector and have built good rapport with people. So far we have conducted Participatory Rural Appraisal and formed stake holders committee in each villages. Village survey and house hold survey has been carried out and uploaded in UBA Portal.

Faculty and Students have participated in Gram Sabha meets and addressed local issues and have under taken various activities to find solution to those problems in collaboration with villages.
|
|
Village Development Plan was prepared with Stake Holders of the respective villages. Regular activities such as Tutoring, Swachatha Activities, Jal Sakthi activates, environmental protection activities and skill trainings are carried out on a regular rhythm. Initially during the year 2018-2019 Our Institution received Rs.50000/- as seed money to carry out survey related activities.

Building rapports (Visit houses, Schools, balwadies, primary health centre in the village, interact with community leaders and SHG leaders, leaders of political party and ward members and NGOs).

Apply Participatory Rural Appraisal Techniques in order to make the people aware of their village structure and available resources.

Reflecting together ( the students in each place will participate in Gram sabha Meetings and reflect among themselves involving village stakeholders on the issues related to their specific place while continuing their rapport with people. Then prioritize the issues and learn to analyze them in the light of their creativity and intelligence).

Identifying and creating networks (students should know about the resources in the community such as community hall, libraries, balwadi centers, tuition centers, and population details. Tell the students about the importance of networking with Government and non Government Organizations to address the needs of the people.

Net work can be with District administration, Panchayats, NGO, corporation, industrialist, philanthropist, ICDS, PHCs and Department of social defense, TamilNadu. Social welfare board, lions club, rotary club, Sarva Siksha Abiyan etc.

Strategizing intervention (Education – street play, puppet show, community meeting, video show, and awareness programme. Health and hygiene: Rally, community cleaning, leaflet distribution, awareness programme, medical camps. Environment: sapling plantation, awareness programme on eco- friendly activities etc., Skill Development for promoting self employment and entrepreneurial skill to women, Adult and Men).

Mobilising resources: Look for resources from District administration, corporate companies and donors. Look for appropriate partner to collaborate with them in the issue. Also get in touch with people who are already involved in such issues.

Prepare Village Development plan and submit to district collector to include in to district development plan.
