Do not fear, for I am with you,
do not be afraid, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my victorious right hand

– Isaiah 41:10

Service to the Society

The AICUF Unit of Fatima College is comprising of first and second year Undergraduates. Membership is open to students of all religions. Three staff members guide the AICUFers in taking up multifarious activities both within the campus and outside.

AICUFers attend seminars and workshops and share their views about the social problems will help them in public speaking and street theater.

AICUF serves as a platform to our students to develop an awareness and critical analysis of our social needs. This will also cultivate a deep and genuine concern for the apprised and marginalized and to commit them to the task of building a humanized society, as enlightened women.

The All India Catholic University Federation is a movement of university students with a vision for a new and just society.

It is indicated by the abbreviation AICUF. The movement was started in 1924, at St.Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli by Fr. Carty, SJ. Currently it operates in 14 states of India.

The organization is affiliated to Pax-Romana, an international association of catholic professionals (IMCS).

The AICUF’s vision is to sensitize students towards those at the margins and involve ourselves in the struggle for their basic rights by equipping ourselves physically, intellectually and spiritually while networking with NGOs and peoples’ movements.

To enable students to develop a critical awareness and analysis of the Indian and world situation, to cultivate a deep and genuine concern for the oppressed and marginalized and to effectively commit themselves to the task of building a new and just society.

To help students evolve spirituality that has humanization as its core, through involvement and reflection.

To motivate students to become involved in studies, research and activities linked to broader social issues and struggles with a view to becoming a creative and critical force within the university.

To enable Christian students to play a prophetic role in their communities through a living and critical understanding of their faith, drawing inspiration from the Gospels, the Eucharist and their prayer life.

The members of the All India Catholic University Federation stand for the service and liberation of all human persons, as Jesus did, irrespective of caste, sex, language or belief.

As members of the larger human family, AICUFers affirm their solidarity with all those engaged in the struggle for peace, human and democratic rights and for a world marked by growing economic interdependence and equality. The members recognize and respect plurality of cultures, religions and ideologies contributing to the growth of human beings as created in the image of God.

As Citizens of India and an integral part of a nation striving to discover a new identity and to build a new and just social, economic and political order, we opt to place ourselves on the side of the oppressed and the marginalized and continue to struggle till the end.

As men and women in the universities, the members understand that these institutions, though part of an unjust power structure, still provide space for debate and dissent which we shall utilize in the process of social change.

As members of a Christian movement, the members draw inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, in our attempt to build, in solidarity with men and women of various faiths, a new society and university in tune with the needs and aspiration of oppressed masses.

“We are born in an unjust society, we are determined not to leave as we find it”

The membership of AICUF is open to university students who share the ideals of the movement as enshrined in its constitution. However, every member state has the autonomy to decide on its own policy regarding membership.

Every member is entitled to participate in all the decision – making activities of the unit. However, a member can be selected as an office-bearer only on completion of one year in the AICUF, except in the case of newly formed units.

AICUF’s structure is geared to ensure its mass students movement character. The AICUF functions at the national, state, regional and unit levels. The state is the primary decision making body in AICUF. The various states are linked at the national level as members of a federation.
